“Combating Systemic Racism in Access to Nature, Open Spaces, and Parks and Recreation Resources”.

  • Worked under the supervision of Dr. Monika Stodolska and Dr. Kim Shinew
  • Assisted in recruiting 400 survey participants and conducted interviews in Spanish and English speaking community members. Assisted with data analysis and final report preparation.

“Crime, Physical Activity and Outdoor Recreation among Latino Adolescents” funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.”

  • Worked under the supervision of Dr. Monika Stodolska and Dr. Kim Shinew
  • Responsible for contacting and recruiting middle and high schools to participate in the research project.
  • Helped recruit 250 parents and obtain 190 surveys from middle school children. Helped with interviewing children and in the Spanish translation of surveys and interviews.
  • Responsible for data coding and analysis and for final report preparation.

“Environmental preferences and the use of natural areas for physical activity among racial and ethnic minority residents.”

  • Worked under the supervision of Dr. Monika Stodolska and Dr. Kim Shinew
  • Responsible for conducting 6 focus groups with Latino residents.
  • Responsible for collecting 200 surveys from Latino community residents.

 

Research Coordinator | Spring 2005-Fall 2006

The effect of sport facilities and trail systems on the use of green spaces for physical activity among Latino(a) Americans”. 

  • Worked  under the supervision of Dr. Monika Stodolska and Dr. Kim Shinew
  • Responsible for collecting 400 surveys in community parks.  Recruited 24 Latino men and women to wear accelerometers to measure their activity levels.
  • Responsible for conducting 24 follow-up interviews with Latina women who participated in the project.
